ALERT! Marcos Jr.’s Fascist Rule Escalates: Mangyan-Iraya Face Demolition, Ilocano Farmers Arrested

Pieceland Corporation is set to begin demolishing and displacing the Mangyan-Iraya from their lands in Malatabako by tomorrow, August 13. This is backed by a decision of the Municipal Circuit Trial Court – Abra de Ilog, Mindoro, which ordered on July 19, 2025, that the Indigenous Peoples vacate their ancestral lands. The same Indigenous group has been accused of forcible entry into land that Pieceland Corporation claims as theirs.

Meanwhile, in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, two Indigenous farmers, John Belmar Garvida and Willy Bangngad, were illegally arrested last night, August 11, at 8 PM. They were apprehended by elements of the 102nd Infantry Battalion in Sitio Salicsic, Brgy. Dampig, Pagudpud, without a warrant of arrest. Garvida was returned home by 10 PM, but Bangngad remains in military custody. Prior to their arrest, both had already been subjected to interrogation by the military, and it is possible they endured physical and psychological torture. Their community is currently facing the threat of a destructive dam project, which they strongly oppose.

What concrete steps has the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) taken to protect the very communities it is mandated to serve? Its silence and inaction in the face of demolitions, militarization, and land grabs make it complicit in these injustices.

Katribu condemns these blatant violations of the rights of Indigenous Peoples. Attacks on marginalized sectors are rapidly escalating, with multiple violations of basic human rights and International Humanitarian Law in recent weeks. Marcos Jr. and the corporations he is in cahoots with are weaponizing the military and the NTF-ELCAC in their relentless pursuit of land and profit. The time is now to demand accountability from the Marcos administration and from all other institutions that serve his interest.

Katribu calls on all advocates and supporters of Indigenous Peoples’ struggles to expose these crimes against humanity and to expose Marcos Jr. for his fascist, anti-people regime that tramples on Indigenous rights, sovereignty, and our future.
