Beverly Longid on the statement of the NCIP on the Ayta’s barricade at Mt. Pinatubo



"The NCIP misses the point. “Seeking an explanation” on the illegal arrest of the Ayta is not enough. Appropriate charges should be filed against the involved police elements for violating the rights of the Ayta to free speech and to peaceably assemble for redress of grievances.


The plight of the Ayta does not just involve fair share and compensation, but also genuine recognition of the Ayta and their rights over their ancestral land and territory. More than stakeholders, the Ayta are right holders."
