STAND WITH ATTY LA VIÑA! ABOLISH NTF-ELCAC!

KATRIBU expresses its support for environmental and human rights lawyer Atty. Tony La Viña as he prepares to file charges against former NTF-ELCAC spokesperson and retired Col. Antonio Parlade Jr. for his repeated red-tagging, vilification, and harassment.

For many years, Atty. La Viña has provided vital legal support to Indigenous Peoples leaders, communities, and organizations facing criminalization and defending their ancestral lands against destructive projects, including mining and dams. He has consistently stood with Indigenous Peoples in asserting their rights to land, self-determination, and justice.

Atty. La Viña also served as legal counsel for the petition of various Indigenous Peoples and Moro organizations challenging the constitutionality of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, the  surfacing of desaparecidos Dexter Capuyan and Bazoo de Jesus, among many other legal initiatives in defense of human rights and Indigenous Peoples.

It is precisely because of his solidarity with Indigenous Peoples and marginalized communities that Parlade has relentlessly red-tagged and vilified him. Such attacks are not only directed at Atty. La Viña personally but also seeks to intimidate lawyers, human rights defenders, and communities who dare to stand against injustice.

We stand with Atty. La Viña in defending his rights and in resisting red-tagging and all forms of harassment against those who defend Indigenous Peoples and human rights.
