Katribu, together with fellow advocates and organizations for Indigenous Peoples’ rights, immersed with the community at the people’s barricade opposing Woggle Corporation in Dupax del Norte.
During our stay, we conducted consultations with residents to better understand the roots and current developments of their anti-mining struggle. Community members shared accounts of rights violations and described how their livelihoods have been disrupted by the corporation’s operations. Many residents sacrifice valuable time that would otherwise be devoted to farming and other sources of income in order to man the barricade, recognizing the importance of sustaining their collective defense of their land and rights.
We firmly stand with the people of Dupax in their barricade. Throughout our visit, we learned of the various ways Woggle Corporation appears to be circumventing the temporary suspension of its exploration permit—including restricting residents from freely and properly inspecting the drilling site to verify that the suspension is being implemented. The testimonies we heard from community members about the impacts of Woggle’s operations only strengthen our conviction that the people’s struggle in Dupax is just and rooted in their legitimate defense of their land, rights, and dignity.
We call on the public to raise awareness about this issue and Woggle’s continued impunity. Let us amplify the voices of the people of Dupax and demand the full and genuine enforcement of the suspension order—and most importantly, the complete and permanent removal of Woggle from the community.
